anyone replace this yet?
trying to open the FOB now and not cooperating - is there a secret?

thanks Tampa - by coincidence, I had just gone online to ownerslink and found the info.
Its actually on page 135
the FOB does not come apart as easily as they say.
Also, saw that battery is only expected to last 2 years. Well I made it just over 3

There must be different versions of the online manual. The copy I linked to was a 2006 RL manual, it is in fact on page 167.

But if it does not work, you might have to "get a key".

Must be Fob battery season. My '05 just gave me the low battery warning this last weekend. Made it 39 months with daily use.

The Fob is NOT easy to open. Take the key out, put a coin in the slot and twist. It seems like something might break but just keep sliding the coin down and continue to gently pry it open. No secrets, just a tight fit. Once open, the two 2025 batteries are easy to pop out and in and clearly labeled for polarity.

Scottj - agree with you getting it open. Did it last night. Really needs to have 2 coin slots to wwedge open. I had to use a screw driver in the gap.
Strange thing is, I took the batteries out of wife's FOB and put them in mine thinking that hers would still have a bit more power while I went out to buy new batteries. However, when I got in car this morning, got the same warning with her batteries in my FOB. I guess the power consumption is uniform whether in use or not.

Isn't the FOB always "in use"? If the car automatically detects the presence of the FOB, then the FOB must be always emitting a signal so I'm not surprised that they would expire around the same time.

Finally got to the store to get replacement batteries. The good news is that I found them at normal store (Longs) and easy to find. Bad news they only had 2 in stock, so now have to go back and get 2 more for wife's FOB later.

I get the dufus award - I found it very easy to open the remote with a dime, but when I snapped it back together the panic button was jammed and my car horn went off for about 30 seconds...

update to this:
I had previously swapped batteries from fob2 to fob1 as temporary fix before getting to store to find batteries. However, low battery warning remained and thus the conclusion that fobs are "always on" and therefore batteries drain same amount.
Got to store and bought batteries, but they only had 2. I replaced them in fob2 (wife's) so that she would not have to deal with any issues.
I continued to use fob1 with old batteries (and low battery warning), but before I could get to the store again, the low warning wnet away.
Strange - its been a month now and fob1 (with old fob2 batteries) is still working without warning.
Now, I'm thinking that the only fob1 batteries were low as oringinally expected, but the warning light does not reset right away. Anyone have similar experience after replacing batteries?

Just found this site looking for info on fob battery replacement. Mine lasted 46 months (Driver 1) Off to buy batteries now. Thank you previous posters.

Having a major issue. Just got the low remote battery warning a couple hours ago.
Now the alarm goes off every time I try to open the door. How do I turn the alarm off and can I drive the car without this key fob working?

I got both fob batteries replaced at the dealership parts department, cost me about $20....

Not sure why your alarm is going off. Try replacing the battery first, see if that helps.

As far as driving the car without the fob goes, take a look at your fob and you will notice a small button to remove the key. See photo below.

Also, he/she needs to know how to use the key. I had no idea how till the dealer showed me. Put your finger on the knob that you turn to start the engine. Feel the bottom of that knob, there is a rectangular hole that you insert the key into to pop that knob off and this exposed the key hole. Everybody needs to know this so we can use the car when the keyless system fails.
