Alright. my 2000 TL is having the same problems as this after a dead battery. Except the window reset doesn't seem to be working. my driver controls only will control the driver window. When I "reset" the passenger window it stopped working all together until i held the button in the close position for 5 more seconds... now it works but still only from the passenger side control, any suggestions?

Hi! This isn't working for me. My battery died and I got a jump. Next day power windows stopped working from any of the doors. Also, my dashboard is not lit and the gauges aren't working. Checked all the fuses but they're fine. Also tried disconnecting/reconnecting battery.

^This. The most common misunderstanding is doing this procedure on the driver's door when it should be done on the door with an issue.

I'm having a problem with my 04 TL. I had some door speakers put in a few months ago and now the windows/sunroof will not roll down. (They are stuck in the up position). Any ideas? I've searched alot and can't seem to find anything. Thanks.

fixed it instantly. you just go to the "problem" window, and roll it down, and continue to hold the button in the down position for 5 seconds...then roll it all the way up and continue to hold the button in the up position for 5 seconds. window is reset and the drivers pad then will control that window again. i did it for each rear window.

WHY this happened to my car all of a sudden, I don't know, but it must have had something to do with running the power all the way down to zero and draining my battery. maybe i need a new battery. nice to know that nothing is really wrong with the car.

I love my RL. it is SUCH a wonderful car. I bought mine used/CPO..and what a deal I got. my brother in law just bought a brand new toyota Corolla...with CLOTH..and he paid MORE for that "car" than I paid for my RL...... yeah it's new....but it's a tin can/death trap/econobox.

anyway..windows are fixed! thanks guys!

That fixed my rear windows in a couple of minutes! I realized I had let the battery drain down to the point it wouldn't start the car a month ago, but thought the only issue was I had to put in the navigation code. I didn't realize the rear windows couldn't be controlled from the driver's controls until yesterday. I found this thread and it was right on the money. Many thanks!

Window problems

Had an alternator fail and battery completely drain on my 06 RL with 97,000 miles. Replaced alternator and charged battery. Everything seems to work as before but the drivers side rear window will not operate from main switch, and the remote will no longer lower the windows. The rear window works from the rear door. I can live without these things, but bugs me to have something that doesn't work! Any ideas?

here is how to reset the power window after battery failure.
Hold down the dead driver window button - 5 seconds
then push up the driver window button- 5 seconds
this should reset the window button.
see if this works for you

Really? Towards the top right of the RL forum page is a drop down link that says, "Search this Forum." I'm pretty sure if you type in "power window reset" you will come up with exactly 17 individual threads of which about a dozen of them have the answer you're looking for.

Here. I even made pretty pictures for you with arrows directing you in your travels.

Auto up window issue

Ok, it is quite possible I am being an idiot. And to start out, I HAVE DONE THE WINDOW RESET. The issue I am having is that when I use the auto up function on both of the front windows, occasionally it goes all the way up and then rolls half way back down and stops instead of staying up. Every time it does it, it goes back down exactly half way. It does not do it every time. Has anyone had this issue before? Any thoughts?

saved $600 today. Thanks

Last winter my battery was drained. I will never allow that stupidity again. I had to reset every thing in my 2008 RL. Two days ago I noticed my left back door window was not controlled from my driver side door switches. Never dawn on me that it was resetable. I went to dealer. They claimed that the switch was broken and replacement is $595. I was gasped and told them no one sits my back seats and I hardly used the front switch to control them. They said it was electrical and car was out of warranty. I said Ok and luckily enough they did not have the switch console in their stock and they ordered the part. I checked the Internet and found this thread. It worked like a charm. Went back to dealer. They scrambled and the so called mechanic came out. The bastard sweared that there is a broken contact on the assembly but could not explained how it is working with broken contact. He and his boss, the service manager both shamelessly lied. I told them what to do and quit cheating people. They kept telling me soon the problem will come back and I have to change the switch. I said until then I am not replacing anything.

You guys do not have any reason to lie. You are helping out people who are seeking help. The dealers are horse thieves. They have every incentive to bend the truth or out right lie because they are under the pressure to generate revenue. I am sure there are one or two honest ones around. But the majority are bad. They propose unnecessary work and use the scare tactics the owner who is reluctant to spend such money.

I cannot tell that wheather they knew the trick about resetting the front switches discussed here or not yesterday. They should know it though. It is also Acura's fault not to mention such a thing as a troubleshooting in owner's manual.

I will definetly report this incedent to them. The service manager kept telling me that sometimes they need to retrain the window motor if the window is not properly opening or closing but he insisted in my case the switch was broke (which was totally a lie). So, he knew the procedure but he acted that he did not know this was also reset the front switch. The bottom line was they wanted to change front door window switch assembly and get a labor mark up. They are thinking that they are not harming the car but not hesitating stealing the money from your pocket. To them it is totally legit. If I did not find this thread, how I should know that this was a one minute simple procedure. I am so lucky that they did not have the part. If they had it, they would replace it. Then, how I would argue that they lied to me about the broken switch.

So, bless you and keep up the good work. Who knows, one day I may find out something and share it with you folks to pay back.

I wonder if you need to lubricate the window seals (Shin Etsu grease or spray) or the actuator mechanism within the door?

The window actuator may 'think' something is caught in the window, if there is too much torque required and is doing an emergency 1/2 open.

I am having this issue since I my car got hit. They replaced my left side with used doors. I read somewhere that the regulators are going which is why the windows roll back down but so far, it only fixed my rear window. My driver side is still rolling back down half way...so now my body shop is ordering a window module to see.

I just fixed my window issue exactly the same as 05RLinOK described. Turns out it just needs a reset to the power window control unit which can be done via HDS or manually.

1) Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
2) Move the window all the way down by using the power window DOWN switch.
3) Open the driver's door.
NOTES: Steps 4-7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other.
4) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5) Push and hold the power window DOWN switch.
6) Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
7) Release the power window DOWN switch.
8) Repeat step 4-7 three more times.
9) Wait 1 second.
10) Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work, go back to step 1.
11) Move the window all the way down by using the power window DOWN switch.
12) Pull up and hold the window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for 1 second.
13) Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the power window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN function.

If the power window still doesn't work in AUTO, repeat procedure several times, paying close attention to the 5 second time limit between steps.

power windows work, but 1 on master doesnt...

weird issue here:
- all my windows work via the window switch on each door.
- master driver switch operates ALL windows EXCEPT the pass/rear.
- the pass/rear windows DOES work with the switch on that door.

what can this be???

You need to do a power window reset procedure. Go to the door in question with the car ignition on (II) (engine running or not). Press "down" until the window is fully down and hold "down" for 5 seconds. Pull "up" until the window is fully up and hold "up" for 5 seconds. This will reset that power window, and you should have "auto" functionality at the driver control unit..

Or you could search. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=700654

Auto driverside window control

I recently drained my car battery and had to manually re-program everything. I found out that the rear pass-side window will not go down with the drivers side control. Any ideas?

same thing happened to me recently...found this with a search:

"Press and hold the button to roll each problem window all the way down, then hold for 5 seconds after the window is down. Let go of the button. Press and hold the button to put the window the whole way up then hold for 5 seconds after the window is up. your windows should now be reset and can be controlled from the drivers window controls. "
