18 aspecs or 19s?

I'm getting the itch for new wheels. I have always thought the OEM aspecs look nice. I can get nice refurbs on eBay for around 200 per wheel.

Nice 19 donjons are going to be around 300 per wheel..and tires cost more...but they look cool. The Vega, rev, and legend are nice looking.....but I also wonder if 19s might be more looks and less performance....too heavy and too bumpy?

If i do wheels, I'll do H&R springs... That would be all I'd do.
I already have the rear sway bar upgrade.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I don't want the aspec setup....it's not low enough

My vote goes to the aspec 18's.. I think the 19's will be too much of a rough ride. If you live in a colder climate where the roads get pot holes, forget about it lol.. You'll save at least $500 as well..

Surely he is talking about his RL. What do you mean it doesn't have Aspec? Look at tnobori's avatar. 18" OEM Chrome Aspec alloy wheels.

when I was picking a wheel it was either a-specs or RJs because I didn't want to have any wheel issues. 18"s seem to be the optimal size so you don't spend a fortune on the tires.

I went with RJ, obviously but then again, I didn't spend 200+ on used wheels either.

my vote is for a-spec 18s and h&r's that sounds like a good setup. not to soft and not to rough.

btw anyone selling their a-spec pm me.

23109VC, both seem like good options but I recall your hesitation to do the aspec suspension for fear of changing the ride quality. You won't affect it as much with wheels as with shocks, but you're probably better off with 18's.

Parasurfer, why would the OP post an MDX question in the RL forum? And why do you need to answer questions you don't have the correct answers to?

I went 18 Aspecs Continental DWS with the tire size to match the OE 17 height and can tell no difference at all.

Conti's are soft tires, my Michelins were definitely not that soft (Pilot A/S)

I came from Toyo Versado's on my stock wheels... The Michelin man can keep his tires.

I dunno what u talking about, Michelin makes excellent high performance tires...problem is not the performance, it's the price!!!

absolutely correct. You can get a comparable if not superior tire for less money all day.

I dunno about superior but my Conti DWS are clearly a match for Pilot Sport A/S and Conti DW is supposed to be the answer to PS2s.

DWS definitely kicks @$$ in the winter time vs older A/S but then again, maybe A/S + is better...

I have no idea what that all means, but yes a comparable if not superior tire can be bought for less money than Michelin's.

Seat of the pants is the only accurate judge, but when I had my '06 RL I had 19" RonJons in Goodyear Eagle F1-GS-D3s with the A-Spec suspension and I thought the car rode quite wheel. Firm but certainly not harsh. It also handled quite well.

the ronjons look cool but are pricey... the 19" ones I like are $300+ new each.

I could find some refurbished aspecs for under 200/wheel... some vendor on ebay had them for 180/wheel.. not bad for actual OEM wheels..they were not knockoffs..they were OEM wheels that were just refinished....

add some H&Rs and it would be a sweet looking ride...

RJ is flexible on pricing. my wheels list for $270 each and I got em for under 1k drilled to 5x120 so if you like his wheels it's worth a talk.

hmmmmm... i'll think about that for sure. i do like his wheels... i thiank the 19s look the best but I've never dirven or ridden in an RL that has 19s.

my parents have an RL with 18s and the ride is a bit firmer than my car, but not bad.

is the jump in "bumpiness" and stiffness.. when you go from an 18 to a 19.. similar from the jump from 17 to 18... OR is it a LOT stiffer, or is it hard to tell.. OR does it also depend a bunch on tire selection?

I think tires make a huge difference..... and so there are many variables..that what feels ok on one car may feel bumpy on another. when my parents first bought their RL it had Michelin Pilot sports on it... i'm not sure if they were all seasons, or if they were the summer version... I think they were PIlot Sport I's... not PS2s.... but a s ummer tire...the tire that Acura put on teh aspec wheels.... it rode nice....it gripped really well and to me..did not feel rough or bumpy.. when those tires wore out they put on a cheaper tire..a dunlop all season...and my mom now says here car rides like a truck..she is not happy with the tires..but they don't want to pay to replace them...so when this set wears out they are going back to the michelins... i drove it and I also thought it rode rougher/bumpier than before... only change was the tire....

so who's to say if 18s or 19s would feel different... dependinmg on tires? i think the 19s look cool... in many piocs I htink the 19s look great..in a few pics I've seen 19s and thought they looke da bit too big... I definitely don't want 20s... every pic I've seeen of 20s i thinm they look on the large side.... i'm not interested in going "huge"...

when my parents park their car next to mine, i htink their wheels look nice...and it makes my 17s look "wimpy".... they don't look huge or blingy..they just look nice.

i think a car dropped on 18s would look very nice, tasteful..and would not necessarily have people turnign their head thinking "hey that guy did wheels and dropped his car"... but if you do 19s.. the size increase of the wheel is just enough taht suddenly I think it does have that "he's got wheels" kind of look..

i don't know if you guys agree.. or know what I mean...

A while back when I was thinking of doing wheels, I contacted RonJon and he was super nice - did some photoshops of a few different wheels on my car..he used existing pics on his site, but tweaked the color to make it look like carbon gray like my car.. I also told him I was going to drop my car on H&Rs if I did wheels..and some of the cars in his gallery are at stock ride height, so he copped a drop onto the cars. I have to say, he was very nice... he did the chops just by me asking... I never bought the wheels...but his willingness to help even a potential customer is excellent. IF/when I buy wheels, I'd for sure want to give him my business if I decided I like that look and style. Customer service is hard to find these days..and he is willing to help out. Here is one of the photoshops he emailed me.. I hope he doesn't mind if I post it here... I'd like to get some input form you guys to see how you like it?

how do these look?

i also think regular OEM aspecs would look plenty good... . what do you all think...

aren't tires on an 18" wheel way cheaper?

how big of a difference will ride comfort be on an 18 vs 19, assuming each seutp is on MIcheline PIlot sport A/S+ with H&R springs???

Can't speak to the differences between 18s and 19s but you're right on with your discussion about tire selection and ride comfort. I can tell you that tires for 18s are less expensive. That said, tires are an occasional purchase and may not be a factor if a few hundred bucks every 40000 miles won't hurt you.

i am not worried about a few hundred buck every few years....

if I do get 18s or 19s... I'm not sure if I'd keep or sell myh OEM wheels... i have almost new Michelin Pilot sport A/S+ pon them.. if I let those sit for a few yhears..won't they rot or go bad? I migth be better off to just sell teh wheels/tires.... i'd get a decent amoun tof money for them since they have brand new rubber on them.... that would offset the $$ for new wheels/tires...

i like the Michelines... I'd probably get another set of Pilot sport A/S+....

big decision is do I go 18 or 19. I'm going to ddrop the car on H&Rs if I buy wheels... i hate how these cars look at stock ride height with big wheels....

whenever i see my parents car...which has 18" aspecs..I always think how much better it would look with a drop!

OEM aspecs are nice looking wheels.. not too big...

is the ride harshness from 18s to 19s a big difference?

too bad the wheel/tire shops don't have a "try it before you buiy it" kind of program where I could get a set mounted, ride around on them..and if I don't like them, swap them for something else....

^ I love aspecs too, but RonJon does fantastic work and deals extensively with Hondas. I'd buy his wheels without any reservations about quality or fitment.
