opti coat, opti guard

I searched and found the thread where this was discussed by Tampa (2 day spa treatment)

However, I cannot find current info on optiguard. Wondering if they changed the name of the product to "opticoat pro"

Anyone here know?

I believe they had a naming conflict with another product.

Opti-Coat Pro is the professional product replacement for Opti-Guard. Opti-Coat 2.0 is the consumer version which cures slower (available on AutoGeek).

FWIW, the finish on my RL has not deteriorated at all since I had the Opti-Guard application done. No water spot etching or bird dropping etching. All I do is wash the car, towel dry and use a detail spray. I am regularly asked who details my car.

Although it will not prevent typical rock chips, IMHO it is worth every penny.

...still a mirror / liquid glass look that the RL's hand wet sanded is often overlooked.

Found a guy that does Opti Coat Pro. He also recommends Strike Force

Seems pricey
Total for pre-sealant Detail including inside with conditioners, then Sealant, plus Clear Bra is $2300.

Thoughts?

I paid abut $650 for both the OptiGuard and the pre-detail. Being my RL was 6 years old at the time, there was some finish correction and scratch work done.

If I remember correctly the detailer who did mine (who was excellent) quoted the OptiGuard was $225 just for the product and the rest was his labor over the 2 days. When I asked what the fee would be for a new car / sedan he said 'under $500' as there is minimal paint correction needed.

I would move.

The prices I see online for OptiCoat Pro range from $300 - $550 for product and labor. There is quite a buzz for it on the Tesla boards. Scan those and you may find one in your area as you mention Tesla's are part of your landscape.

I cannot speak for the clear bra as I never priced that before, but the detail prep quote is INSANE for a new car. And although Optimum does not publish pricing for the professional version (now OptiCoat Pro) non of the high end detailers I see online quote the product alone that high. Most quote $400-600 for product and application (with paint correction work additional).

The detailer who quoted you must think very highly of himself, and I was raised never to worship false idols.

Went to the Opti cost web site to find installers - very few in my area and none very close if their web site is really up to date
found one for $725 and waiting for callbacks

finally found one that can do the car with more reasonable prices.
500 for the opti coat pro, probably some charge for prep since I have some swirls from the stupid dealer "detail"

hopefully this is worth it as he's not exactly close to me

the other expensive guy must have been BS , because he wasn't listed as a certified Dealer on OptiCoat web site (although not sure if they keep the site up to date)

Had the car done yesterday. Looks unbelievable. Will post some pics when I get a chance.
The place I took it was very dedicated and professional. I told them I had to have the car back at end of day because going on a trip today. The car had some swirls due to the dealer's "detail". The said they had to do a 2 or 3 step process to remove the swirls before putting on the opticoat. Each step would take about 2 hours. They called me mid-day and said things going well, but would not be ready until late. They actually worked until 9PM on the car.
When I dropped the car off in the morning, one of the guys gave me a ride to the train station so I could go home. He refused to let me give him gas money.

Since they did such a great job, you should throw them a bone and state their business info.

We also need pics.

I know of an extremely talented, professional and perfectionist detailer in the Tampa area - Garry Dean Detailing.
He has youtube videos, his own product line and works on very high end cars.

They are "68 Auto Detail" in Milpitas, CA
I'm going to do a recommendation on Yelp for them. They have lots of good reviews.

Should get some over the weekend

Gary Dean did my RL. I have referred several people to him. Next new car I buy goes straight to Gary. I may even negotiate bypassing the initial dealer detail and have Gary do it.

Looks great getakey. Adding that extra layer seems to make the RLX finish look wet sanded as is the RL.

Should be MANDATORY for a black car!

Tampa - be sure and skip the Dealer detail. Dealer added swirls which is what took so long to polish out.

Glad I found your thread on Opticoat!

We went up to wine country for the weekend. Took the car on that road that they first tested the RLX on. Remember the videos and pictures in wine country for the first customer experience testing? Unfortunately, on Sunday it was such a nice day and there were all sorts of bicyclers on the road, so we couldn't push the car.

Looks great! I've seen several opti-coated cars myself, and they all looked great! I opted to not get it done, but my car turned out amazing after Autolavish took care of it.

Just to contribute to this thread in case someone searches, Autolavish can do opti-coat in the Detroit area.

They said to wait a week before washing it to allow coating to cure. Can't wait to wash her tomorrow!

got it washed. Amazing stuff - highly recommended at least so far.

If Tampa checks in, can you comment on any type of maintenance required. Do you use any spray like McGuiar's Quick Detailer?

Not much to it. I just wash, towel dry and use a detail spray to finish it up. I have used Mothers and Eagle One mostly. I see no big differences. It just gives the finish that slick 'just waxed' feel. But usually after a rain or two is washes off. No much sticks to Opti-Guard. I just use a microfiber sponge when I wash and it wipes away clean. If you do not use a detail spray rain tends to sheet. If you use detail spray it will bead. Just a preference. I just find the detail spray adds some addition repellant to grime.

When my RL was done he also did the wheels (look as new, never brake dust buildup), the side and rear windows and the trim, headlamps, tail lamps etc. Although it can be used on glass, he recommended not doing the windscreen as the wipers will / over time wear it down.

Keep in mind if you use a scratch product like 3M scratch remover, a strong polish or compound it will strip the Opti and may need re-application. Likely they told you that. Best is bird droppings, tree sap and even some road tar wiped away with no elbow grease or finish etching.

From your pic I can see additional depth in the finish. It seems to lessen the orange peel I noted on the RLX. Do you agree?

Black is amazing when kept clean and blemished minimized....you made a wise investment IMHO.

Will continue to use a detail spray after washing then

and, yes, less orange peel effect. I'm debating on a clear bra as my previous RL got a lot of rock chips in the front

Tampa - thought you might be interested in this. I emailed OptiCoat about boats. Here's there response:

Yes, Opti-Coat can and is being used on boats. One installer in Miami is
Coating new boats at the manufacturer and he is doing the entire boat
including metal. Optimum does not have any information at this point on
durability but so far so good.

already done.

FYI, Optimum also now has products for leather, interior vinyl & plastics as well as glass specific ceramic finishes that are good for the windshield.
