Occasionally, I forget and leave the car with the key position on 1. In my old car, that would only have the effect of the ignition being on for 15 minutes and then it would turn off. I've made an effort to always turn it to 0 but days like today I walk out and the car battery is dead. Is this with everyone's RL?

If so, then I'd think the switchy thing would have the traditional "0 I II Start" positions and that it would be possible to leave it in "I" without the key in the car.

And yes. That position is intended to power the accessories so it will draw power and will drain the energies from the battery.

I went over this in the push start ramblings thread. The RL has keyless access with a mock ignition key. It is far superior to any Lexus.

Yes. Stop doing that. All RL batteries will die when you leave the car on with the engine off.

No, I wanted to know if there was something wrong with mine because all my previous cars had an auto time out feature where it was impossible to kill the battery.

But on the obverse, if it *did* have the auto-off feature, there would inevitability be people complaining that they can't listen to the radio or keep their lights on for longer than xx minutes; and how it's hard to believe a luxury car manufacturer could not include that feature...

What benefit. It's coz ppl forget it on.

I think the general op confusion is the difference in assumptions when making a car with a turn ignition and another with a button. with the button, it can be expected ppl will forget it requires one more push to turn it entirely off. With turn ignition, it's more physically obvious.

the c300 i was driving for past 3 months was a button, and i did forget it a couple of times. it turned off by itself. The RL, i leave ignition 1 on on purpose sometimes so that my son gets to keep the radio on; I've never forgotten it on.

Hope it answers the op, altho if u (op) got an rl and forgetting it in ignition 1, u need to think as to why that is happening to you.

No shit. It's as if you haven't forgotten how a car works.

Leaving the turn key ignition in the ACC position and questioning a dead battery is equivalent to going back to a manual transmission and questioning why the car won't shift without pressing the clutch.

Had a bonneville and grand prix. Both had the option to turn the key reverse to leave the car on for extended periods of time.

As to why it happens, occasionally when I turn the car off, it sticks on 1 instead of 0. That is probably the most likely reason.

My S2000 does very well indeed - you just have to match the revs carefully!

I guess the Regendo has made me too lazy to use the clutch in traffic...

Shirley one just turns the key until it stops & then remove it...or press the brake, shift into park and then remove it if you're absent-minded like me.

Mind you, I've had cars where even leaving it with the engine running wouldn't encourage someone to steal it either.

The op is asking if the RL has a power cut off feature if the ignition is left on in the no. 1 position?

Apparently, there are smart cars with this feature but you guys go all sideways on op.
