Used RLXs hitting the market

I just saw a used RLX in my area for $40k with only 10k miles on it. There are three other used ones with around 5k miles for $42k. I'm sure the associated dealers can be talked down further.

Exercising real patience here, waiting for the sport hybrid version and for bug control when these steals are popping up. It's getting harder.....

Found an Advance model with only 3,200 miles sitting on the dealer lot last Friday where I had bought my CR-Z new last year. Talked them down to $43,700. It turned out to be a deal I couldn't refuse.

Granted I picked up the RLX for the wife as her daily driver, I really enjoy driving it on our weekend outings. Wife is now very happy, which means I am as well.

In short, the car is stellar, even if it was slightly used at purchase. No regrets whatsoever. Also, I have a professional detail scheduled for tomorrow, so it will end up looking even better than new.

Thanks! I can't blame you for waiting on the sport hybrid. That would be my preference as well, but the wife was ready to get out of her '10 MDX Tech once she saw and drove the RLX they had.

If these two data points are an indication of things to come, the RLX will have an abysmal depreciation rate. More than $20k off MSRP in one year.

hope you don't have the severe rattle problem (see other thread). if acura doesn't come up with a fix for that soon, my will be back on the lot. so far, no indication of a permanent corrective action in sight.

I think sooner or later I'll be on the market for a used 2 year old RLX, hopefully with less than 50k km (~30k miles). One question I had and nobody (in person) seems to be able to answer is how are the rear tires holding up with the PAWS system? Any rapid deterioration due to the rear wheels doing all these funky things?

My RLX now has 7900 miles on it and tires are rotated at every 7500 mile check up. No appreciable wear noticed yet. The P-AWS system is not that aggressive (for my driving style, at least) so I would hope that wear will not be a problem.

Hmm, RL "sport hybrid." Might be worth it for the MPG's, but I would avoid the first model year of a vehicle like that. Acura is know for adding much more at the MMC.
Buy a used RLX and save your money, as the Sport Hybrid as it will cost at least $60K.

Whatever my $.02 is worth!!! I had a 2007 RL with 160,000 miles with not one problem that I sold two years ago. Currently driving a 2010 with 65,000 that I bought used with 26,000 miles. I will be looking for a 2013 RLX within a year. Once again looked at the Lexus ES350 and the 2013 is much better than the 2010 but. I am so picky when it comes to cars. Things like the door storage compartments not pulling out, a useless center console because of the terrible access, no coin holder, terrible nav system etc.. The Lexus is a great car however but I am particular. My problem that I see with a used RLX is availability. Not many around plus I did a search 500 miles and 40 of the 55 are black. I know color is a personal thing but I would not buy a black car or a black interior regardless of price. Please don't anyone take this the wrong way. I could afford any car (I am old) and looking at the Lexus, Mercedes, BMW Audi etc there is not a car that I think that looks as good inside or out, is as reliable, fun to drive, comfortable and inexpensive to maintain as the RL/RLX. Compliments to you for great taste. The only downside is the depreciation and that is why I buy used.

I've seen people worry about tire wear before, and I'm not really sure that I understand why we think P-AWS would cause tyre wear.

I'd think that if anything, it would even improve wear.

Besides, they tend to use specially made high performance, all-weather Michelins that seem to last 60,000 - 70,000 miles.

Fred, I understand your situation and agree with you. The German cars are amazing vehicles, but owning two (a X5 and a Z4, both BMW), after 100k or so they start to become 'needy' -- by that I mean things start to break. With repair shops charging $125 in my area, the labor and parts add up very, very quickly. Not to mention BMW raises parts prices (like any company) on older cars as time goes on.

For me Acura does have a great car. I think the RLX is a good start, and keep an eye on truecar.com -- they have some decent price analysis that can be helpful. I think you may find prices may be discounted even further as we enter the 2015 model year. Let's see what happens.

Fred, you and are the same age and live in the same state. Like you, I normally buy used cars. My 2006 RL has 120K miles and is running great but the get another car demon has been whispering in my ear lately. I was looking at Lexus LS 460s but have concluded I'd rather be in a less ostentatious RLX having better features. Another plus is the RLX is about 5 inches shorter than the standard LS460 and fits better into my 1960s era size challenged two car garage.

The LS460 gets such good reviews and it is a Lexus but I test drove it when I bought my 2010 two years ago. My wife and the salesman were in the car during a test ride and he asked me how I liked it? My reply was great car but I feel like I am sitting on my den sofa. It has no feel while driving and some might like that aspect. I almost fell asleep. The race is on than with you also in NC to find one. I bought mine in Columbia SC.

RLX with navi are going used with low miles for as little as $35k. I have been doing Autotrader searches. All I can say is "holy depreciation, Batman"!

A representative example:

You guys with PAWS RLXs better plan on keeping them forever!

This is where leasing actually makes sense. Turn in the keys and walk away.

I wish that I could lease, but I average 25,000/year and leases are so outrageous that it pays to buy and take the depreciation myself.

My nearest dealer still calls every once in a while to make sure they should call me for the right RLX Hybrid, and then the 9 speed TLX SH-AWD.

I dunno. The RLX that I have is just fine...leaning toward wonderful as I get to know it better. If the depreciation is as bad as people are saying, I might have to stick with it because it's just the best thing to do, economically speaking.

What to do, what to do?

New RLX Advance for $49k, used RLX with navi with less than 10k miles for $35k (or less if I can argue a dealer down), and there are multiple of these? 113 used RLXs I listed on Autotrader!

Now I'm really wondering if Acura is even going to bother with the Sport Hybrid given the market for the RLX? Still waiting for it to officially bow before I decide what I'm going to do.

Hello fellow CR-Z owner, wife has a '12 EX 6MT with a supercharger.

Anyway, I've seen a couple RLX's for sale with some big discounts.

Yeah, you're definitely not the right candidate for leasing, but someone like me, who drives less than 6k a year not only benefits from leasing, but can sometimes make out better than expected.

The RLX is looking intriguing as an option, especially with what I have been quoted for a couple of the other options I have priced out. Not sure it fits my lifestyle needs, which really dictates more of a hatchback or wagon.

Where is Paragon Acura getting all these cars from? They must have a 'in' with Acura on demos or executive cars?

Paragon moves a lot of cars and I think they are the go to guys in the tri-state for Acura to "help out" (nod/wink).

Cool! Love my CR-Z. One of my most favorite daily drivers I've ever owned. Built just right for the lone commuter who wants to have fun yet remain efficient. Bet that supercharged CR-Z is a hoot!

No doubt. Sniped the wife's RLX at a remarkable savings. Lot of ride for the money any way you look at it, especially with a discount!

People should really jump on those. The bottom line is that it's a Honda...it's going to last.

I bought my 2010 TL in December 2009, when they were very unpopular and everybody was saying how awful they were. By the time I got rid of it with 86,000 miles on it, the reputation had turned around and I was astonished how much I got for it.

Because of the very low initial purchase price, real world depreciation was much better than expected. Just like any Honda.

Anybody trying to sell you an RLX is going to wonder about that Miata as your avatar. :-)

Sadly, the Miata has been gone now for almost two years. Down the road, I may purchase another one as a gift for the wife. Ideally, I would like to see if I can relocate the same car and restore it as it holds sentimental value for her since it was her first car.
