SPOKE TO MUGEN about M1 body kit
i have 05 RL and first saw mugen body kit on honda website. the ones shown in the website is the standard mugen body kit, but there is also "special" body kit called M1 body kit which i saw on the street of japan (i wish i know how to post pics). it looked very different and included fender cover as well. it made Legend look so much better.
i was interested so i called and emailed some places in japan and i finally talked to the person incharge of mugen international sales division. he said that M1 body kit is only manufactured and sold in japan, and only at dealers.
they are not allowed to export M1 (or mugen) body kit- this is because each country's bumper regulations are very different so it may not fit on RL (since demand for M1 is very low no one in US has tried to install M1 so they do not know if it will fit)
he added that to install mugen body kit on US accord, alteration had to be done for it to fit.
he told me that since they are not allowed to export mugen product directly, they do have an official importer in US, which is kings motor sport. i called them and they said they could import the M1, but they cant guaranty if it will fit since no one has ordered yet so no one knows. to make long story short... he said the cost of M1 including shipping (without wheels) will be about 5,000.
well all i know so far is that honda grill fits on RL bumper. i was thinking may be i could order one parts at a time and see if it will fit... which is a better way than to waste 5,000. does any one have suggestions? (besides just ride the damn thing w/o it...)

So far as I know, the Acura RL is exactly the same as the Honda Legend except for some trim bits and available options. I don't see why the M1 body kit wouldn't fit. I say, if you're willing, get the front piece and have it installed.

that's the standard Mugen bodykit. Chickenprotein probly confused the two, because the Legend Max is the one with the full front bumber replacement and the M1 is just an add on.

chickenprotein, one of my friends in Japan has the M1 kit. The kit does fit our RL's. However when I spoke to my mugen rep in Japan he said replacement m1 parts are only available to actual owners. A vin # has to be provided. The m1 version is sold at dealerships. The Legend Max is a one of kit and not available.
The differences between the m1 and normal kit they offer are minimal - 1. m1 has fog light bezels 2. m1 has square tips 3. m1 has fender flares (look stuck on to me, I'd prefer no flares). Other than that it's the same kit. Here's a pic of the my car using the standard kit for reference -
ps where in NY are you ?.

We installed the kit ourselves. The kit is a bit hard to install because all the instructions are in Japanese, but we provide the english translation to our customers. If you need a quote on the non m1 kit lmk, it's almost 2k cheaper than the price you posted.

chickenprotein, the answer we got from mugen last year when I asked is that the m1 is sold as a complete car at a honda dealership. So they only provide replacement parts for this kit to the original owners of the m1 kit. Furthermore they require documentation to verify that you own a m1. I can obtain a vin # of a m1 as one of my friends has one, but I don't think it's enough to order a entire kit as they'd get suspicious.
