97 RL Alarm keeps going off randomly?
Hey guys..
I own a 97 RL and the alarm keeps going off randomly all the time. It dosen't matter if the car is locked or unlocked. Day or night it will go off. I took it to the dealer and they said that they think they would have to change out the whole Computer/Control unit. The car isn't worth much (just my beater) so I don't want to dump that much into fixing it.
Is there anyway to disable the alarm while keeping all the other electronic parts working? If not, do you guys have any ideas for a fix?
Thanks.
Jae

It's probably just one alarm sensor as opposed to the whole unit. That's what happened to my 97. If you can, keep the car unlocked for now so the alarm is disabled - when mine kept going off it blew a fuse and messed up my horn.
I can't remember for sure but I think the bad sensor on mine was in the front, and all they did was disconnect it. So if you can find the sensors you can try disconnecting some of them. Or take it somewhere else, they'll be able to find which sensor is the problem.

If I remember correctly, it is sometimes the hood latch sensor

The alarm will go off even when the car is unlocked which is baffling to me. Is that even possible? It's almost as if something is shorting to make the alarm go off.
Is there a fuse related to just the alarm that I could just pull?

Do you live in a rainy/damp area of the country? Do you park outside? Acura has a service bulletin (B98-028) issued in Oct, 2001 that addressed issue similar to yours. It applies to all 1996-2001 3.5 RL's and a few from model year 2002. Water leaks into the front pillars and gets into the connectors for the under-dash fuse/relay box, drivers multiplex control unit or the the door lock actuators causing intermittent electrical problems (such as door lock actuators cycling or the security alarm going off reason when the car is parked.)

Are you sure this is the alarm, or is it just the horn?
I have the same problem in my 97 Legend, where the Horn will sound when the headlights is on.
It is not the alarm, because there is a patter for the alarm to sound, but the horn will just sound forever.
If so, you will need the Multiplex Control Unit.
Good luck,
Nelson
