Hard to say what size spacer you'll need without actually test fitting the wheel. Maybe you can contact the manufacturer of the wheel and see if they've fitted that wheel on the RL before. Also you said you've bought a wheel to test fit if you're able to tighten the wheel all the way and wheel does rub the caliper when you try to spin it, a cheap way to test possible size is to put washers on the studs then tighten the wheel again, do the same procedure over until you have enough washers that the wheel is mounted on tight and able to clear the caliper when spinning wheel by hand. That will give you an idea of possible size spacers you'll need.

I highly doubt you'll need spacers with studs that bolts to factory hub. As for tighten the lug nut you'll just have to tightened the lug nuts in a star pattern and one snug after it's completely tight. Do not need to over tight it otherwise you risk breaking the stud.

Ps what size and brand/model of wheel are you getting and from where?

So, do I need to "wing" this sizing task all by myself or are there specific merchants I can go to? Is there a standard measurement for the minimum amount of clearance that is safely necessary?

Lastly, do you know how many winds/twists of the lug nut are necessary for safe attachment of the rim to the hub?

Hey bro, I hope you can help me with any insight you have on this.

    Mahalo and peace out

    Hey Mr. Kev
I saw your posts about not needing extended lugs if you just have 5 mm spacers so it seemed you would have some good background knowledge in this.

I need spacers for the after market rims I want to use. Nobody else I know in the forum uses these wheels so I am without a reference for how to make these work.

Since I am on my own, I bought a trial rim on-line to test fit it, but it will need spacers to clear the brake calipers.

How do people determine what size spacer is needed? Do you also purchase an assortment of spacers and see which one works ideally? I have tried going to the local tire shops but nobody will service hubs with spacers. I found one place that will only honor spacers that are bolted down to the hub and then have additional pressed on bolts that hold the rim, but how do I know what size of these to get?
